Registration is now open for the 2013 Virginia Emergency Management Symposium, to be held Wednesday, March 20 through Friday, March 22 at The Homestead in Hot Springs, Virginia. Speakers at the symposium will include Walter Maddox, mayor of Tuscaloosa during the town’s 2011 tornado; Doug Erickson of Northstar Management, closely involved in the 2011 tornado response in Joplin; and motivational speaker Keni Thomas, former staff sergeant for the U. S. Army and member of Task Force Ranger as part of Operation Restore Hope in Somalia, including the Battle of Mogadishu famously dramatized in the film Black Hawk Down.
